Seeing with your Heart - A conversation with Joanne George the Dog Mom to Sunny and Smiley –who are both rescued blind pups turned therapy dogs

Episode Summary

In this episode, Lauren chats with Joanne George an incredible rescue advocate who rescue pups who otherwise would have been put down. She rescued Smiley from a puppy mill in Canada at about two years old. Most people were disapproving assuming the pup would have no quality of life but Joanne was steadfast that Smiley was going to have an epic life. They began to share postings on Smiley and created a movement which included writing a book and speaking to children about how people are different and those differences must be celebrated. Children are very acute when seeing things through the perspective of a dog as opposed to looking at it through human eyes. And all of this was led by a blind dog who sees with his heart.   Smiley lived an incredibly fulfilling life and eventually was diagnosed with cancer and past away a couple of years ago. For Joanne and her son it was devastating but Smiley’s community cared for them during that time of profound loss. All dogs go to heaven! Joanne learned of a puppy born in Tijuana Mexico without eyes and it was a match made in heaven: meet Sunny. Sunny was rescued from Mexico, transported to Oregon and Joanne and her family traveled to Oregon to bring Sunny home.   Follow them on social media @fortheloveofsmiley   The legacy of their kindness and filling the world with joy continues and is paramount to what connects them to the world.
